PUPILLAGE

Resolution Chamber’s approach to pupillage

As a small boutique set, we are only able to take pupils on an exceptional basis, rather than a matter of routine. When, however we do take pupils, we take the training and development of pupils very seriously and commit our time and resources to them.

We regret that we are unable to respond individually to each and every application that we receive. The applications are reviewed periodically and we invite any successful applicants to an interview.

  • The primary role of a pupil is to learn and gain experience - not to do tasks for members.

  • We recognise the importance of training, mentoring and investing in pupils.

  • Pupils sit in the same room as the Barrister who is responsible for them in order to maximise learning opportunities.

  • The Barrister taking a pupil is expected to ensure that the pupil is provided with good quality mentoring and experience as well as meeting log-book requirements.

  • All other Barristers in Chambers are expected to be supportive of pupils and to be willing to allow them to attend hearings or the like with them.

  • Pupils will not impress Chambers by staying late or coming in at weekends or holidays.

  • We currently pay pupils HK$10,000 per month.

  • In addition Chambers encourages paid devilling work provided that this does not interfere with training. Priority for devilling, however, is given to very junior tenants.

  • Resolution Chambers is opposed to all forms of unlawful or unfair discrimination,  harassment and bullying, and takes active measures to prevent it.
